Hello, and welcome to my page! My name is Cathryn McShane (sign name BAREFOOT), and I am a fully qualified and registered British Sign Language (BSL)/English interpreter. I can also offer BSL/Welsh interpreting on request, however, to date, there is no formal accreditation available in this specialism.
I am self employed and work freelance, and may be booked on an ad-hoc sessional basis. I am registered with HM Revenue and Customs, and am responsible for my own tax and National Insurance arrangements.
Based in Cardiff (South Wales), I am willing to consider assignments within a 2.5 hour travelling distance.
I am a Member of the Register of BSL/English Interpreters (MRSLI), registered with CACDP (Council for the Advancement of Communication with Deaf People) by the Independent Registration Panel (IRP). I am also a full ASLI (Association of Sign Language Interpreters) member (MASLI). You can therefore be assured that I hold both professional indemnity insurance and an enhanced disclosure CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check (copies available on request).
I adhere to the IRP's Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Professional Practice, which includes policies regarding confidentiality and impartiality.
